Larry Keating to Speak on AI Adoption and Digital Sovereignty at the AI for Developing Countries Summit, United Nations Palais des Nations, Geneva

January 20, 2025

Larry Keating, President and Founder of NPC DataGuard and Keating Technologies, and recently-appointed Senior Fellow of the AI for Developing Countries Forum (AIFOD), will be speaking at the upcoming Geneva Summit taking place January 27-28, 2025 at the United Nations Palais des Nations in Switzerland.

Keating will address the importance of lowering barriers to adoption while maintaining digital sovereignty in developing countries, and the risk that inaction will increase the economic gap between developed and developing nations. He will be joined by Andrea A. Jacobs, AI Legal Advisor, Ministry of Legal Affairs, Antigua and Barbuda, Xiaobing Tang, Former Senior Counsellor, Market Access Division, WTO (World Trade Organization), and Tania Cernuschi, Unit Head, Immunization Vaccines, WHO (World Health Organization), to explore strategies for inclusive access and development of AI technologies while preserving national autonomy.

Keating will draw from his extensive experience as a technology entrepreneur and inventor, and his roles as an innovator, leader, and contributor to government advisory programs where he worked to balance the socio-economic benefit technology can bring to underserved segments of society. He will outline actionable pathways to foster innovation, bridge digital divides, and ensure ethical implementation of technology to drive sustainable growth.

"The promise of AI is boundless, but its equitable adoption hinges on our ability to overcome systemic barriers and uphold the sovereignty of nations as they harness its potential," said Keating. "I look forward to engaging with global thought leaders to advance this critical dialogue."

The Geneva Summit, themed "Empowering the South 2030: Forging an AI Future of Inclusive Digital Sovereignty," will bring together private sector innovators and leaders, policymakers, and academics to address pressing issues in AI adoption and socio-economic development.

Keating was also recently appointed Chair of the Digital Sovereignty and Governance Sub-Committee, AIFOD, where he will lead a team of almost two-dozen professionals from around the globe to develop comprehensive frameworks that protect and promote digital sovereignty, data rights and privacy protection, while fostering innovation in developing nations.
